Press Release 22/02/2020

Auronzo International Ice Dragon Boat Festival – 22 February 2020 – Misurina

Misurina is the stage for the Europe’s Ice Dragon Boat

Auronzo International ICE DRAGON BOAT Festival

The sun shone on the first edition of the Auronzo International Ice Dragon Boat Festival. All the teams were amazed at the incredible setting.

The young athletes from Auronzo di Cadore and Dobbiaco opened the day with a demonstration of ice hockey.

Irish, German, Hungarian, English and many, many Italians took part in the opening ceremony with the traditional Eye-Dotting Ceremony.

This was followed by many races. The sun that cheered the spirits of all present, also heated the ice, creating some difficulties for the teams who had to work very quickly to avoid the ice skates attached to the boats from freezing to the ice.

But the smiles and the enthusiasm were enough to make for some exciting challenges.

The Hungarians of Dunai Sarkanyok dominated the Open category.

In the other categories, there were various winners amongst the teams. The Women’s Social was won by the Brentane of Valbrenta, Cuore di Donne from Bergamo won the BCS-Pink Ladies, the Germans from FKV Dragonauten were first in the Mixed and the Irish Carlow Dagons won the Women’s category.

A very enthusiastic Mayor of Auronzo di Cadore, Mrs Tatiana Pais Becher was present at the opening ceremony and the medal presentations.
